Final Statue of Confederacy in New Orleans is Being Removed
New Orleans and other southern states have been going through the process of getting approval to remove all of their confederate memorabilia. The green light was lit for NO to remove their 4 pieces in 2015. Finally in April 2017 the process was started.
A monument representing the Battle of Liberty Place was removed in April, following a 6 foot statue of President Jefferson Davis on May 11. Wednesday the statue of Confederate Gen. Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard and finally today Gen. Robert E. Lee. All statues have been up for over 100 years.
The first 3 were done in a bit of secrecy with small crowds and during hours where many people were not up. The removal of the 4th piece takes place at 9:00 am and large crowds formed early for both sides of the fence protesting how this is a part of history, while others state this is a constant reminder of slavery.
