The Not So Christian In Me Show Hits the Big Easy for the Essence Festival

This past weekend “The Not So Christian In Me Show” was invited to HBO POV events during the Essence Festival which was held in New Orleans at the Loft.

They attended HBO POV: Black Ladies in Comedy Brunch where Insecure's Natasha Rothwell (Supervising Producer & Actress) joined A Black Lady Sketch Show's Dime Davis (Director) and Lauren Ashley Smith (Head Writer) to chat about creating comedic hits, being a black woman at the top of your game, and the process of rising to the top. The conversation was moderated by The Read's Crissle West.

Following the brunch, HBO also hosted A Black Lady Sketch Show Screening, Panel, and Mixer where the stars of A Black Lady Sketch Show - Robin Thede who is the 1st Black Female Sketch Writer, Creator and Producer, Quinta Brunson, Ashley Nicole Black, and Gabrielle Dennis - sat down to discuss the need for A Black Lady Sketch Show, the process of its creation, and what to expect this season. The discussion followed a screening of the pilot episode and was moderated by culture writer Jamilah Lemieux. This show will display black women being funny in their own way with the freedom to be able to add their own personality to their roles. It reminds me of Robert Townsend Partners In crime but with an all black female cast. These group of ladies are changing the game and they are super hilarious.

Check out the Premiere of A Black Lady Sketch, Friday August 2nd @ 11pm on HBO.
