Autism Awareness with Exceeding Autism

As the rest of the planet celebrated World Autism Awareness Day 2021, Blessed Beatz joined in the spread at the Gala De Bleu event organized by Exceeding Autism, a non-profit in Houston, Texas founded by Netra Ford.

Netra addressed the attendees to give thanks for their support of a cause that is near and dear to her heart, and one that brought her "purpose" after finding out in February 2014 that her son, Neiman, is on the spectrum shortly after his 2nd birthday.

In 2016, Netra released a book titled "Exceeding Autism" that "reflects on the journey of overcoming barriers to raise a child with special needs. Those of us who are bold enough to admit that we all have a special need will be transformed by allowing God to create a masterpiece from the puzzle that we call life."

According to Netra, "it took the pain from that diagnosis for me to find out what my purpose was." She continued, "And in that purpose, I am fulfilled and my life has been so much better." Proceeds from the event go towards helping parents and families affected by autism to cultivate abilities through engagement, education and empowerment. Autism Affects Us All

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. Many may not realize it, but Autism has recently been estimated to affect 1 in 54 children. According to the CDC, boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed than girls, and minority groups tend to be diagnosed less often and later in years.
